Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary: Breathtaking beauty in a tranquil, tropical setting. Brightly coloured exotic birds in mangrove woodland and two of the regions largest walk-through aviaries. www.graemehall.com. Tel: 435 9727.

Barbados Wildlife Reserve: Set in a lush mahogany grove, see monkeys, deer, otters, mongoose and many more creatures roaming wild and visit the aviary and iguana sanctuary. Tel: 422 8826.

Farley Hill National Park: Popular picnic spot for locals on weekends and holidays, ruins of a palatial mansion, groves of mahogany trees and stunning views of the East coast.

Harrisons Cave: A natural wonder of the Caribbean, an underground maze of caves, lakes and waterfalls. Tel:  438 6640.

The Animal Flower Cave (St. Lucy): Situated at the north point of Barbados, a large sea cave filled with pools and unusual rock formations, a good photo opportunity with the view through the cave opening out to the Atlantic Ocean. Local snack shop/bar and souvenir shop. Tel: 439 8797.

Welchman Hall Gully (St. Thomas): Three quarters of a mile of tropical plants and trees, plus the worlds largest pillar (joining of a stalactite and stalagmite): Tel: 438 6671.
