Sunset Apartment - Island Tips

Personal Safety: Barbados is no different to any holiday destination with regard to personal safety and the safety of personal belongings, serious crime is rare but the usual precautions should be taken. Never leave anything visible in hired cars and never let your belongings out of your site whatever you are doing. Use the safe in the apartment for valuables including passports and tickets.

Swimming on the East Coast can be very dangerous and should be avoided.

Manchineel Trees produce a poisonous green fruit the size of a small apple touching it can cause the skin to blister.

The sun is HOT even with the cooling breeze and sunburn is popular with visitors but we all know it is not pleasant. Use high factor sun cream at all times, young children should wear a hat.

Mosquitoes enjoy new fresh blood so insect repellent is useful especially after dark.

Dress Codes: Swimsuits should be for the beach not for restaurants and shopping, topless bathing for women is against the law as is the wearing of any camouflage clothing. (the wearing of such clothing is reserved for the Police and Barbados Defence Force). Evening dining is smart casual but shorts are generally acceptable except in the exclusive restaurants.

Drugs: Are illegal in Barbados and the penalties for possession or trafficking are severe.

Camouflage Clothing: is reserved for the Royal Barbados Police Force and the The Barbados Defense Force, members of the general public are not allowed by law to wear any such clothing.
